The Uganda Police Force (UPF) continued its impressive performance at the 18th Inter-Forces Games and Championship 2026 in Gulu, securing top honours across several disciplines, including women’s handball, men’s darts, taekwondo and the men’s 10km road race.
In the team events, the Police women’s handball team emerged champions to claim Gold, ahead of Uganda Prisons Service (UPS), who took Silver, while hosts Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) settled for Bronze.
Police also claimed Gold in the men’s darts, beating UPS to the top position, with UPDF taking Bronze. The Police women’s darts team added Silver, behind champions UPS.
The Cops also collected individual honours in handball, with Nakamiya Diana named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in the women’s competition, while Katusime Oliver scooped the Best Goalkeeper award. In the men’s category, Bongomin Daniel emerged Top Scorer.
In athletics, Chebet Abel powered to Gold in the men’s 10km road race after clocking 28:03.7, while fellow Police athlete Kiprotich Martin Maingo secured Silver in 28:05.0. UWA’s Cherop Samuel Simba finished third in 28:10.0 to take Bronze.
The Police Taekwondo team equally delivered an impressive performance, with Ogwal Faruk winning Gold in the men’s Fin Weight, Mugweri Christopher taking Gold in Light Weight, Packara Steven emerging champion in Welter Weight and Ocen Innocent securing Gold in Heavy Weight.
In the women’s categories, Adye Faith won Gold in Bantam Weight, Among Rebecca claimed Gold in Welter Weight, while Akello Eunice took Gold in Heavy Weight. Naudo Betty added Bronze in the Middle Weight category.
Other Police Taekwondo medalists included Obedi Giu Francis, who secured Silver in the men’s Middle Weight category, and Okello Darius, who took Bronze in Feather Weight.
Commenting on the performance, ACP Kalule Abu, Acting Commissioner of Police for Sports and Physical Fitness, commended the Police players, coaches and technical teams for their commitment, discipline and determination throughout the Games.
“We appreciate our players, coaches and technical teams for the commitment and discipline they have demonstrated throughout the Games. Their performance and the medals won are a reflection of the hard work and determination they have put in,” ACP Kalule said.
He noted that beyond the medals and competition, the Inter-Forces Games remain an important platform for building stronger relationships among the security forces.
“These Games are not only about winning. They provide an opportunity to strengthen solidarity, friendship, teamwork and cooperation between the Uganda Police Force and our sister forces. That spirit of togetherness is at the heart of the Inter-Forces Games,” he added.
ACP Kalule congratulated all the medal winners and thanked the participating sister forces for maintaining the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout the championship.
The 18th Inter-Forces Games, hosted by the UPDF in Gulu from August 22 to September 4, 2026, bring together the Uganda Police Force, UPDF, Uganda Prisons Service and Uganda Wildlife Authority in various sporting disciplines under the theme “Building Synergies Through Sports.”
