POLICE CANINE UNIT RECOVERS 10 STOLEN GOATS IN IBANDA

Crime & Operations

Police in Ibanda District have recovered ten (10) stolen goats belonging to a local farmer.

The incident occurred during the night of 20th October 2026 at Kicuzi Cell, Kicuzi Parish, Kicuzi Sub-county, Ibanda District, where unknown thieves reportedly broke into a goat pen belonging to Asasira Tobius and stole ten goats.

Upon discovering the theft, the owner promptly reported the matter to Ibanda Central Police Station, prompting a response by police officers who visited the scene, assessed the circumstances surrounding the incident, and documented it to support further investigations.

Police canine handlers attached to the Ibanda Police Canine Unit were subsequently deployed to assist in the search for the stolen animals. Upon arrival, the team assessed the scene and established that it had been preserved, allowing for effective canine tracking.

The handler then introduced Donatella, a police tracking dog, to the established scent bed. Picking up a human target scent, Donatella immediately set off on the trail, leading the handler through the surrounding farmland to a location where all ten goats were found tied together, apparently awaiting further movement.

A search of the surrounding area was conducted in an effort to locate the suspected thieves, but no suspect was found at the recovery site.

The recovered goats were subsequently handed back to their rightful owner, Asasira Tobius, bringing relief to the farmer.

Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace and arrest the suspects as investigations into the theft continue.
