We are deeply concerned about an incident where an NTV reporter, Scovin Iceta, was allegedly assaulted by police officers from Adjumani, while returning from his journalist duty, in Mungula Refugee Settlement Camp.
In line with our established practices and procedures, the IGP has instructed the Regional Police Commander, North West Nile, to immediately contact the journalist and institute inquiries. He must in addition take sanctions against all officers responsible for the assault.
The Police leadership takes matters of mistreatment of journalists seriously, and will continue to promote its partnership with the media. Our protective cover to all journalists as they play their essential role in reporting events will be further strengthened.
