Police Go Down Fighting
• Police 0-1 Kitara
Uganda Police Football Club was subjected to its third home defeat and fifth overall in the 2024/25 StarTimes Uganda Premier League after bowing to Kitara 1-0 at Kavumba recreation playground on Thursday.
Jude Ssemugabi scored Kitara’s decisive goal that ensured the visitors revenge for their home loss in the reverse fixture at The Royal Park stadium, Hoima.
Ssemugabi escaped from his marker Faruku Katongole before heading home a curling freekick from Solomon Okwalinga with nine minutes into the second stanza.
The game was evenly poised in the first half that had nothing much to write home about save for Obedi Brian’s shot from a distance which was too easy to be dealt with by Kitara’s Crispas Kusiima.
Also, goalkeeper Edward Kasibante kept the result leveled at halftime with a decent diving save to parry out a stunning shot from 20 yards while anchorman Steven Kabuye limped off a few minutes from the whistle and Emmanuel Mugume filled the void.
With Nine minutes after restart, Kitara broke through Ssemugabi’s header whose header left goalie Kasibante static in goal. Mugume teed up Kalanzi in the area but the latter sent a towering header wide.
Head coach Mugerwa Simon Peter later made a tripple substitution with Reagan Male (Kalanzi), Gerald Ogweti (Loki Emmanuel) and Herman Wasswa (Timothy Muwanguzi) stepping in to intensify the search for an equalizer.
Obedi later sent Kusiima into action, saving his halfvolley out, Reagan Male unleashing a stunning shot inches off target and Ogweti’s goal bound shot was cleared off the line by Kitara’s backline.
Jjemba Abud Shakur was later brought on to make his league debut but couldn’t change the outcomes of the game. This was Police’s third loss at Kavumba this season after Maroons (2-1) and Vipers SC (1-0) defeats.
After 21 games, Police remains 12th on the log with 23 points and will seek solace next week on Thursday against Soltilo Bright Stars in the Kavumba derby.
