Kampala Metropolitan Police South, through Katwe Police Division, has arrested four suspects and recovered suspected stolen motorcycles following intelligence-led operations targeting motorcycle theft and the disposal of stolen motorcycles.
The operations followed information regarding a suspected stolen Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UMA 2244MX, which was recovered from Banturaki Purtaz, a resident of Wankulukuku Zone, Kabowa Parish, Rubaga Division.
During interrogation, Banturaki disclosed that he had previously stolen two other motorcycles. One Bajaj Boxer, registration number UFH 005Y, was allegedly stolen from Nkumba and sold to two suspects identified as Lukyamuzi Muminu and Abasi Mwesezi in Rakai District. Another Bajaj Boxer, registration number UEQ, was allegedly stolen from Kigungu, Entebbe, and sold to a suspect identified as Mike in Wansaso Zone.
Following further intelligence, police conducted an operation in Wansaso Zone and recovered the UEQ motorcycle, whose number plate had been removed. Two suspects, Senyange Derric and Kagwa Ian, were arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen motorcycle and taking it to the suspected promoter.
On 2nd September 2026, a team of Crime Intelligence officers proceeded to Rakai District, where Lukyamuzi Muminu was arrested. During interrogation, he admitted purchasing the UFH 005Y motorcycle for UGX 500,000. He further stated that he and his accomplice, Abasi Mwesezi, dismantled the motorcycle and sold it as spare parts.
Police also recovered number plate UFH 005Y, which had been hidden at the suspect’s ancestral home, as well as another Bajaj Boxer motorcycle, registration number UDM 669Z.
Police are continuing with investigations to apprehend other suspects still at large, recover additional suspected stolen motorcycles and establish the wider network involved in the theft, dismantling and disposal of the motorcycles.
