As you are all aware, the 2023/2024 English Premiership, is slated to commence on Friday, 11.08.2023, with a football match between Manchester City and Burnley. As always, all our territorial commanders, have been tasked to work closely, with all proprietors and managers of social entertainment places like bars, pubs, restaurants, hotels, gardens, night clubs, etc, to enhance measures designed to keep supporters safe and to raise awareness of the existing threats of terrorism, among football fans, well wishers and staff.

While there is no specific threat directed towards the screening of matches under the English Premiership and other football leagues, we would like to caution all proprietors and managers of major venues and hang-out spots that they should be mindful of the existing threats, since their venues remain attractive to terrorists. This is part of our wider plan to work more closely with the hospitality and entertainment sector, to help protect the public.

Therefore, fans watching the live games are being reminded to stay safe and vigilant. We have also asked managers at all venues to ensure the following:-

–  Have security management plans in places in liaison with the area police.

–  Adequate staff.

–  Report any breach of peace to the police

– Prohibit excessive consumption of alcohol. Sale of alcohol to under 18 prohibited.

–  Avoid over crowding. Consider no more admissions if at full capacity.

–  Have restricted number of entrances

–  Ensure all fire exits are regularly reviewed and unobstructed

–  Encourage use of plastic cups and bottles.

–  Glass bottles and glass are collected regularly and broken pieces, quickly cleared away.

–  Illegal drugs prohibited

–  CCTV must be fully operational 24/7

–  Have controlled smoking areas in place.

–  Noise levels must be regulated with regards to local residents.

–  If affordable, assist transport customers in leaving the venue safely after late games. Share taxi numbers and late night transport that is available

–  Have evacuation plans in case of emergency.

–  Keep valuables like wallets, and phones close or out of sight

–  Avoid confrontations, unnecessary arguments and fights. Walk away and continue to enjoy the festivities in another place. There is no reason to engage in violence.

–  Do not leave your drink open and unattended or pick drinks at random

–  Be vigilant at all times, and if you see anything suspicious, alert police right away.

We wish all football lovers a happy English Premiership and Football season. As always, the police will respond to any disruptive or predatory behaviour for action.
