Police, UPDF Chiefs Discuss Boosting Education for Officers’ Dependents

The Senior Commissioner of Police (SCP) Ubaldo Bamunoba, the Director of Chief Political Commissar, held a strategic meeting with Brigadier General Richard Karemire, the Chief of Education, Sports, and Culture in the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF). The discussion centered on developing effective strategies to promote formal education for the dependents of police officers.

The Director was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Nakityo Jane, the officer in charge of formal education in the Uganda Police. Their combined efforts focused on benchmarking best practices and establishing collaborative frameworks between the Uganda Police Force and the UPDF to strengthen education as part of their welfare programs. Both institutions acknowledged the pivotal role education plays in improving the quality of life for security personnel and their families.

Brigadier General Karemire expressed optimism that this partnership would lead to significant improvements in educational opportunities for the dependents of those serving in the security forces.

As part of its long-term strategy, the CPC revealed that the police plans to establish primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions at the regional level. Discussions are currently underway with the UPDF to utilize its already operational schools across the country to kick-start the educational advancement of police dependents.
