PRESS RELEASE

POLICING THE 64TH COMMON WEALTH PARLIAMENTARY CONFERENCE FROM THE 22ND – 29TH SEPTEMBER 2019.

As you are all aware, Uganda as a country is hosting the 64th Common Wealth Parliamentary Conference (CPC), that started on the 22nd with the arrival of International delegates and will run till the 29th September 2019, under the theme: Adaptation, Engagement and Evolution of Parliaments in a Rapidly Changing Commonwealth.  The conference is expected to attract about 1000 foreign and local delegates whose safety and security is our number one priority.  Since the 22/09/2019, we have ensured the safe arrival of International Delegates and would like to warmly welcome them to our country.

Whilst there is no specific threat directed towards the event, we would like to inform   and reassure all delegates and the public that we worked together with the organisers of the event and came out with the most appropriate policing plan to secure the event.

And although we won’t reveal the specifics of our security detail, we have deployed highly visible and non-visible resources to detect, deter and disrupt any range of criminal activity. It involves a mix of overt and covert officers, deployed in and around the venues; state of the art CCTV monitoring and communication centres; search and screening technology; dedicated security dog teams, being utilised throughout the event.

We also have specialist response teams at selected locations and others patrolling in rapid reaction formations. The wide range of security measures are constantly reviewed, to ensure they remain effective and proportionate.

All delegates are encouraged to cooperate with the requests of our security teams, in and around the venues, especially when getting through the check and search points.  We further remind them to be vigilant and report any thing that does not feel right, for instance, any unattended items and suspicious or unwanted behavior from someone, to our security officers at the venues.

For any crime and safety concern, please do not hesitate to call SCP Nuwagira John on 0714667755 of CP Tumwesige Henry on 0717683868

We wish all delegates a safe and enjoyable event.
