SAVANNAH POLICE NETS SERIAL CATTLE THIEVES

The Territorial Police in Savannah Region has apprehended two notorious cattle thieves, Masembe Amis a.k.a Ronald (Alias, Katoto, General), a 35-year-old businessman and a resident of Busula-Kalule in Luwero District, and Tayebwa Godwin, a 38-year-old milk vendor from Lusaka Zone, Hoima City.

They are suspected of terrorizing the Savannah, Albertine, Aswa, and Wamala regions. The police have successfully disrupted their cattle theft operations, bringing relief to the affected communities.

On the night of February 6, 2025, the suspects went to Bujjabe village in Nakitoma subcounty and stole three head of cattle, loaded them onto a truck, and transported them to Hoima District.The police flying squad was tipped off about the suspects and the stolen cattle, leading to the arrest of Masembe and Tayebwa. However, Salongo and Kakande, who were driving in the vehicle escaped.

The stolen cattle were recovered, and the suspects were transferred to Nakasongola Police Station to help in investigations.

Masembe Ronald confessed to stealing only two cows, while Tayebwa Godwin denied any involvement in the theft.

Masembe Ronald is further alleged to be a notorious cattle thief with a long history of arrests and has always been on our watch list.

Masembe was wanted for stealing cattle for the late Hon. Komuhangi.

In 2019, he was charged with stealing 25 head of cattle. He was released on bail but jumped it and was rearrested in 2021. He was bailed out again but jumped bail.
