Officers from the Directorate of Research, Planning and Development have successfully concluded a five-day intensive training workshop on Applied Research Skills and Capacity Building for Evidence-Based Policing.
The training was held at the Centre for Basic Research headquarters in Kololo, Kampala.
Held under the theme “Research as a Leadership and Decision-Making Tool,” the workshop was designed to strengthen the analytical and research capacity of police officers, equipping them with practical skills to support informed decision-making and enhance service delivery within the Uganda Police Force.
The Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. James Ocaya, presided over the closing ceremony, where he emphasised the critical role of research in modern policing.
“Whatever we do should be grounded in research. I commend the Centre for Basic Research for equipping our officers with the knowledge and skills that will enhance policing and improve decision-making across the Force,” he noted.
He further urged the participants to translate the knowledge acquired into actionable strategies that will strengthen operations, planning, and overall institutional effectiveness within the Uganda Police Force.
Throughout the training, officers engaged in a range of key modules, including research as a leadership and command function, evidence-based policing, policy engagement, and institutionalisation of research within policing systems.
