The Territorial Police in East Kyoga region and Amuria district, are guarding a one Otude James, a 53 year old,, peasant, for injuries he sustained from an angry mob, who assaulted him for attacking and raping his 100 year old, biological mother on the 8.09.2023 at around 11pm, at Olitoi cell, Asamuk Trading centre in Amuria district.
The suspect who stays with his mother in the same homestead, was leaving a single life, after separating with his wife. Upon returning home at around 11pm, she found his mother already asleep in her grass thatched house and forced himself through the weak door. He grabbed his mother’s hands and tied them with a mosquito net and raped her immediately.
After the shameful act, he left his mother in a weak state. The matter was reported to police and the victim rushed to Asamuk Health Centre for medical attention. The suspect was also rescued from an angry mob, and transported to Asamuk Health Cenfre for treatment. Upon recovery he will be charged with Rape and Incest.
The act is a serious abomination that is unheard of, where a son instead of protecting his elderly and vulnerable mother, victimised her in one of the most shameful and inhumane acts. We must respect and protect elders in our society, from all forms of elder abuse and prevent them from being preyed upon, because they are most vulnerable.
We are confident that the police in East Kyoga and Amuria district, has prioritized the safety of the victim, in coordination with the Sexual and Gender Based Violent Unit of CID Headquarters. And will further pursue justice on behalf of the victim.
