Police 2-1 Wakiso Giants
Police Football Club restored their winning touch in the Uganda Premier League with a comprehensive win over Wakiso Giants at Kavumba Recreation ground on Wednesday.
Isaac Ogwang and Obedi Brian James netted beauty strikes in the first half limiting Abdul Semakula’s header to a mere consolation.
Against a good run of play Police drew first blood after 15 minutes through clinical finisher Ogwang who netted his fifth goal of the season.
The clinical finisher was picked up by Emmanuel Mugume on the edge of the box and made a swift turn before unleashing a fierce shot beyond the stretch of Wakiso Giants custodian.
At 30 minutes, Abdul Ssemakula equalized for the Purple Sharks with a header past diving goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga thanks to a Tevin Kyeyune cross.
Four minutes later, Obedi Brian restored Police’s lead. He benefited from another Mugume pass that was poorly dealt with by the opposition before beating the keeper with a stunner.
There was nothing much to write home about in the second half as Police returned with a conservative approach and sat back to defend the two goals despite Wakiso keeping them on tenterhooks for the final 20 minutes.
With their third win in 11 games, Police climbed to the fourth position on 16 points, sharing the same points tally with Express (5th) and UPDF FC (6th).
Police will play away to Sports Club Villa in their next league game on Friday next week at Mutesa II stadium in Wankulukuku.
