CP Kirungi Sulaiman, Commandant of Police Marines, has urged commanders to strengthen joint operations with sister forces to enhance security and service delivery on Uganda’s waters.
Speaking at the opening of a three-day Marines retreat in Kigo, held under the theme “Strengthening Inter-Agency Cooperation in Maritime Operations and Law Enforcement,” he emphasized the importance of coordination in combating crime, promoting safety on the waters, and protecting communities.
The retreat has brought together Marine commanders and Heads of Department from Police Marines, alongside invited guests from UPDF Marines, the Ministry of Fisheries, the Ministry of Works and Transport, and the Police legal and human resource teams.
During the session, Atewebembere Mark, Principal Fisheries Inspector in charge of enforcement, delivered a lecture on opportunities, challenges, monitoring, and regulations on Uganda’s waters, emphasizing the need for stronger compliance and sustainable resource management.
In the same engagement, Brigadier General Michael Nyarwa, Commander of the UPDF Marine Forces, called for enhanced collaboration between the two sister forces through joint training, coordinated operations, and capacity building.
He stressed the importance of shared drills, intelligence exchange, and skills development in navigation, rescue, and law enforcement.
He noted that these joint efforts are aimed at ensuring safer waters and strengthening security for all Ugandans.
