On 21st May 2026, the Rwanda Minister of Interior, Dr. Vincent Biruta, and the Inspector General of Police, CG Felix Namuhoranye, together with other senior police officers and SSP Tobias Ahumuza, the Commandant Tactical of the Uganda Police Force, toured the Mayange Counter-Terrorism Training Centre in Bugesera District, Eastern Province. The visit was aimed at assessing the preparedness of the ongoing Joint SWAT Training under the Eastern Africa Police Chiefs Cooperation Organization (EAPCCO), currently taking place at the facility.
The joint training is designed to enhance tactical and operational capabilities, strengthen counter-terrorism preparedness, and promote regional security cooperation through joint exercises and skills-sharing among participating countries.
During the visit, trainees demonstrated a range of tactical and operational skills to the delegation as they prepare for their pass-out ceremony scheduled for next week.
The drills showcased included rappelling, rescue missions, assault operations, and obstacle crossing.
A total of six EAPCCO member countries, alongside the Central African Republic, Seychelles, and Liberia, are participating in the training.
