The Uganda Police Force provides an update on the fatal road traffic crash that occurred on 16 July 2026 at Chekwatit Village along the Kapchorwa–Mbale Road.

The crash involved an Isuzu bus transporting pupils and staff of King David Junior School on an educational trip to Sipi Falls. Regrettably, 24 people, including the bus driver, lost their lives in the crash.

All unclaimed bodies have since been transferred to Mulago National Referral Hospital to facilitate identification and other necessary management processes.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing, and the findings will be communicated once inquiries are concluded.

Following the tragedy, the Ministry of Education and Sports directed the suspension of all school trips. We urge all school administrators to fully comply with this directive and await further guidance from the Ministry.

We wish to clarify that this directive does not affect the operation of public transport buses. It applies only to vehicles transporting learners on school trips.

The Uganda Police Force once again extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and the entire King David Junior School community. We also wish those who sustained injuries a speedy and full recovery.
