Following a concerning rise in homicide cases registered in Kazo District, a further district security engagement meeting was held on 30th September 2026 at St. Catherine Secondary School Main Hall, Kazo Municipality, bringing together security and community stakeholders to deliberate on the emerging trend and devise coordinated measures to prevent further loss of life.
The meeting was attended by Police officers, political and administrative leaders, intelligence personnel, local leaders and other community security actors. The engagement provided a platform for a comprehensive assessment of the homicide trend, its underlying causes, prevailing security challenges and the urgent interventions required to strengthen public safety.
Key discussions focused on examining the circumstances and emerging patterns surrounding the incidents, assessing existing security and crime-prevention measures, identifying operational gaps and strengthening intelligence-led approaches to crime prevention.
The stakeholders further deliberated on practical and immediate interventions targeting identified risk factors, crime hotspots, repeat offenders, community disputes, domestic-related violence and other emerging security threats. Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing coordination and information-sharing among Police, intelligence personnel, local leaders and community structures, while establishing clear action points, responsibilities and timelines for implementation and follow-up.
During the months of July, August and September 2026, Kazo District registered a total of 14 murder cases, with Nkungu, Buremba, Kanoni and Ngari Sub-counties identified as the major hotspots.
The predominant modus operandi involved victims being struck on the head with blunt objects. In some of the cases, prime suspects were arrested, while investigations established that the suspects and their accomplices varied from one incident to another.
As part of the resolutions, Police will sustain and intensify community policing initiatives, with particular emphasis on strengthening Neighbourhood Watch programmes and community-based information-sharing mechanisms.
Residents were encouraged to actively participate in safeguarding their communities through organised, lawful and vigilant neighbourhood structures, promptly report suspicious activities and share timely information with Police to facilitate early intervention.
