The Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, today launched the Uganda Police Force Block-Making Project, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the Force’s capacity to provide improved and sustainable accommodation for its personnel.
The initiative is designed to promote in-house production of construction materials, beginning with the manufacture of building blocks for Police infrastructure. In the long term, the project will be rolled out across the country to support the construction and improvement of Police accommodation, office space and address the longstanding housing challenges faced by officers.
As part of the initiative, the IGP also laid a foundation stone for the construction of improved housing infrastructure at Nsambya Police Barracks, marking the beginning of a broader effort to transform Police accommodation facilities.
Addressing officers, the IGP emphasised that the initiative is primarily focused on enhancing the welfare, living conditions and overall standards of accommodation for Police personnel. He noted that providing officers with decent and conducive living conditions is essential to their wellbeing, morale and effective service to the public.
The IGP was accompanied by members of the Police Top Advisory Committee (PAC), including the Deputy Inspector General of Police, James Ocaya, and various Directors.
The team also toured Nsambya Police Barracks, where they assessed the existing accommodation facilities and listened to the challenges faced by officers and their spouses. Following the assessment, the IGP pledged immediate interventions to address the most pressing accommodation and welfare concerns.
