The territorial Police in KMP in coordination with the Environmental Police, have in custody, a one PC Ssekyewa Moses, attached to CPS Kampala, who was caught on camera, illegally dumping sacks of waste products, in to the Nakivubo channel. In the video footage, he further aids other civilian accomplices, into dumping more waste into the channel. The footage which went viral generated a lot of debate and anger, from several sectors of the public.
As a result, the suspect was immediately arrested and charged with the illegal dumping of waste. As you are all aware, waste crimes have a serious and detrimental impact on our environment, communities and compliant businesses. It is therefore, regrettable that an officer who was supposed to better protect the environment, was instead, the one polluting it. Efforts are now in place to trace for his other civilian accomplices, for arrest and prosecution.
Illegal dumping remains a huge problem in our country, which calls for great collaboration among all stakeholders. We all have a responsibility to dispose off our waste in a proper manner at all times.
The Police through its Environmental Protection Police Unit, will continue to work closely with partners, to tackle persistent acts of non-compliance and criminal activity related to waste, which if not treated, recycled or disposed off properly, has the potential hazardly polluting the environment.
