Special Representative of the Secretary General for United Nations Mission In South Sudan (UNMISS) Hilde Johnson bestowed a United Nations Medal on UNMISS Police Commissioner Fred Yiga in recognition of his exemplary duties and allegiance towards peace building in the world’s newest nation, South Sudan.
The colourful medal presentation ceremony took place on May 29, 2014 in UNMISS compound in Juba during the commemoration of the International Day of UN Peacekeepers which takes place on May 29 every year.
Mr. Yiga joined UNMISS as Police Commissioner in May 2012 and currently commands slightly over 1000 police officers from 39 Police Contributing Countries (PCC).
South Sudan Minister of Cabinet affairs Deng Alor Koul,members of the Diplomatic Corps and Senior UNMISS officials attended the ceremony during which the South Sudan and United Nations flags were hoisted.
