Police in Mbarara District have arrested two suspects, Tukahirwa Rodgers and Nasasira Darius, in connection with the murder of Arinaitwe Richard, aged 29, a resident of Bwizibwera Lower Cell, Rwanyamahembe Town Council, Mbarara District.
The deceased was allegedly beheaded on 7 September 2026 at an unknown time, with his head later dumped along Sibyangu Street in Bwizibwera Cell.
It is alleged that on 7 September 2026 at about 0748/C, a severed human head was discovered at the doorway of the home of Mr. Gumisiriza Innocent, along Sibyangu Street in Bwizibwera Cell. Mr. Gumisiriza reported the matter to the LC1 Chairperson, who subsequently notified Bwizibwera Police Station.
At about 1520/C, police visited the scene and recovered the remains of the deceased from a home in Bwizibwera Lower Cell. The remains were identified as those of Arinaitwe Richard by his biological mother.
As part of the investigation, the Police sniffer dog Nana was deployed at the scene where the head had been dumped. The dog picked up a human scent and began tracking, following blood stains until it led the investigating team to a house occupied by Tukahirwa Rodgers, a resident of the same area.
Nana was subsequently deployed at the location where the remaining body parts had been recovered. The dog picked up the human scent and tracked towards the area where the head had been dumped.
The canine team continued tracking from the dumping site, following blood stains, and led investigators to a house occupied by Nasasira Darius, a resident of Bwizibwera Upper Cell.
A search of Nasasira Darius’ house was conducted, during which police recovered a panga bearing suspected blood stains. The item was taken as an exhibit to aid further investigations.
The two suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue to establish the circumstances surrounding the murder.
Inquiries into the matter are ongoing.
