Police in Kole District are investigating a case of double murder following an incident that occurred on 13 June 2026 in Otwonoipingi Cell, Akalo Town Council.

The deceased have been identified as Ecom Ivan (22) and Mary Oming (50).

Preliminary information indicates that following a recent cattle theft incident, a traditional healer was invited to conduct rituals. During the process, Ecom Ivan reportedly collapsed and died. This sparked anger among community members, who allegedly attacked and killed the traditional healer. The mob also set ablaze two grass-thatched houses and a motorcycle.

Police responded to the scene, documented the incident, recovered relevant exhibits, and conveyed the bodies to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved.

Police strongly condemn mob action in all its forms. Such acts lead to further loss of life, destruction of evidence, and undermine the rule of law. Any person suspected of wrongdoing should be handled through lawful procedures and reported to the relevant authorities.

The public is urged to report crimes promptly to Police, avoid engaging in harmful or misleading practices, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
