Police in Kazo District have made a breakthrough in the investigation into a tragic incident involving murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery at Kagasha 1 Cell, Nkungu Parish, Nkungu Sub-county, Kazo District.
The incident, which occurred in the early hours of 25 September 2026, resulted in the death of three people, while two others sustained serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Ntegyerize Afusa, aged 47, and two juveniles, Tumuramye Sudais, aged 14, and Nuwandinda Asifa, aged 11.
The two injured victims are Nagasha Zulaika, aged 16, a pupil, and Nuwahereza Aramazani, aged 13. They were rushed to a health facility for medical attention and are currently receiving treatment.
According to preliminary information, at about 0800hrs on 25 September 2026, Nuwahereza Abdul Ratifu reported the incident to the Officer in Charge of Nkungu Police Station. He reported that his mother, brother and sister had been killed and that their bodies were lying in pools of blood, while two other children had sustained serious injuries.
Nuwahereza told Police that he discovered the incident earlier that morning when he went to his mother’s home to pick up his tricycle (tuk-tuk) to go to work. Upon arrival, he found the house open and discovered the deceased lying in pools of blood. He also found the two injured children in another bedroom and immediately rushed them to a health facility before reporting the matter to Police.
A case file was opened at Kazo Central Police Station under Kazo CRB 690/2026.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the assailants were acting on information that the deceased had received approximately UGX 1.5 million, which was reportedly kept in her room. The suspects allegedly gained access to the house through a back door that had not been properly secured.
The assailants are believed to have used a hammer, panga and walking stick during the attack, resulting in the deaths and injuries of the victims. They subsequently robbed the money.
As part of the investigations, Police deployed a sniffer dog, which picked up a scent from the scene and led detectives to Nuwamanya Christopher, who was arrested. His arrest subsequently led to the apprehension of his alleged accomplices, Nuwamanya Micheal and Asiimwe Abel.
Police have since conducted searches at the suspects’ residences, where a number of valuable exhibits connected to the incident were recovered. The exhibits are being secured for submission to forensic experts for further examination and analysis.
The suspects are currently in Police custody as investigations continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and the respective roles of all those involved.
Inquiries are still ongoing.
