In an effort to combat mobile phone theft and the illegal trade in suspected stolen devices, Police continue to conduct intelligence-led operations targeting criminal hotspots across the Kampala Metropolitan Area.
Police at Kabalagala Division have recovered 11 suspected stolen mobile phones and arrested one suspect following an intelligence-led operation conducted in Kasanga Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala, on the night of 23rd July 2026.
The operation was mounted following intelligence indicating that individuals dealing in suspected stolen mobile phones were operating between Kampala City Centre and Kasanga.
During the operation, officers recovered 11 mobile phones that had been wrapped in foil paper, an apparent attempt to block network signals and frustrate tracking efforts. The recovered devices include eight iPhones, two Samsung phones, and one Itel phone.
One suspect, Nakitende Mariam, was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property. Another suspect managed to flee the scene and is currently being pursued by police.
Investigations are ongoing to establish the origin of the recovered phones and identify their rightful owners. Members of the public who believe they may have lost or had their phones stolen are encouraged to report to Kabalagala Police Division with sufficient proof of ownership for verification and possible recovery.
Police will continue conducting intelligence-led operations to dismantle criminal networks involved in the theft and illegal trade of mobile phones. Efforts are also underway to profile and track habitual offenders, enhance deployments in crime hotspots such as Arena, Muyenga, and Tank Hill Road, strengthen foot patrols, and intensify community policing through barazas and public sensitization.
