Kampala Metropolitan Police has made progress in investigations into the murder of Kairu Patricia, a student of Kampala International University, whose body was recovered dumped in Kiyanja Cell, Nabbingo Ward, Kyengera Town Council, on 4th August 2026.
So far, several suspects have been arrested following investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.
On 3rd September 2026, Mawanda Abdul Swabur was arrested from Kiyanja after investigations established that he had arranged to meet the deceased in Kyengera on the day of the incident. He is currently in custody as inquiries continue.
On 4th September 2026, police recovered the deceased’s mobile phone and arrested Matata Philian, a security guard at Seroma Hardware, and his wife, Ayikoru Robinah. The phone was recovered in their possession, and preliminary inquiries established that it had been purchased from a shop at KK Plaza Basement along Namirembe Road.
On 8th September 2026, police conducted an operation at KK Plaza Basement, during which 37 suspects were arrested and 360 second-hand mobile phones recovered from 15 shops.
During the screening process, five suspects were positively identified as persons connected to the shop from which the deceased’s phone was allegedly purchased. They are Baker Maiso, Brian Kayongo, Mugerwa Morris, Nagawa Christine and Balyejusa Brian.
All the suspects remain in custody as investigations continue to establish their individual roles and possible connection to the murder.
Kampala Metropolitan Police remains committed to thoroughly investigating the matter and bringing all those found responsible to justice. The suspects will be produced before court upon completion of investigations.
