Police in Busia District arrested one suspect in connection with a case of burglary and theft reported at Abocet Village, Sikuda Sub-county, on 29th May 2026 at around 1200hrs.

According to the complainant, unknown person(s) unlawfully gained entry into his home by digging behind the house before breaking the door and stealing a mobile phone, camera, laptop, cash, and other valuables worth millions of shillings while he was away from home.

The complainant later reported the matter to Police and requested the deployment of a police sniffer dog to assist in tracing the suspects.

Upon introduction at the scene by the dog handler, the sniffer dog immediately picked up a human scent and trailed for approximately 800 metres to a junction, where it confidently took the left direction for another 200 metres before leading officers to the residence of one Mulyakyami Banuli, a 23-year-old scrap collector and resident of the same area.

Upon arrival, officers found the suspect inside his house playing loud music and dancing alone while using a newly acquired woofer suspected to be part of the stolen property. He was immediately arrested.

A subsequent search conducted at the suspect’s residence led to the recovery of a bundle of cash amounting to UGX 4.6 million hidden under the bed, in addition to other money found in his possession, bringing the total recovered amount to UGX 4,889,100.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations into the matter continue.
