Uganda Police Force (UPF) has partnered with Stanbic Bank Uganda and opened up a branch at Directorate of INTERPOL and International Relations offices on Mabua Road, Kololo, Kampala, to weed out fraudsters who were duping people who want certificate of good conduct by asking large sums of money.
The services of the bank will ease revenue collection for the government.
A team of Stanbic Bank Uganda officials were received by INTERPOL Director, AIGP Fred Yiga.
Speaking as the host, Dr. Yiga said INTERPOL has intensified public education efforts so that Ugandans and the entire international community understand the role and usefulness of the directorate.
“We have campaigned against unlawful acquisition of certificate of good conduct and we have greatly curbed malpractices from those who need it. Our campaign has greatly reduced middle men and seriously curtailed illegal printing centers around the city,” Dr. Yiga said.
He added that the coming in of the bank has made the directorate a one stop shopping center for the acquisition process of the certificate of good conduct, which he said, will also streamline revenue collection and warned the public against using middle men.
“The certificate of good conduct issued by the Uganda Police helps in; when applying for visas, dual citizenship, registering foreign registered vehicles, applying for scholarships, registering companies, applying jobs outside Uganda and when Ugandans wish to verify the criminal status of their domestic workers among others,” he explained.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Brig. Sabiiti Muzeeyi thanked stanbic bank management for the support and cooperation with Uganda Police Force.
“I want to thank stanbic bank for the very many years of cooperation. I am told they have been participating in many projects and are willing to participate in more. We are going to engage more in some of the specific areas, like traffic, accommodation and financial advisory services,” he said.
Weighing in on the certificate of good conduct, the Deputy IGP said that the force has discussed a number of features to be developed to avoid forgery. He warned that those who have been engaged in the vice should stop immediately. The Deputy IGP also commended the directorate staff for the job well done. “I want to thank this team for the dedication and job well done,” he said, “You are relatively a small team but your work is bigger than your number and we appreciate very much as a country and Uganda Police Force.”
A part from setting up the bank branch at INTERPOL, Stanbic Bank also donated world class printer for the certificate of good conduct, established a stanbic bank facility and chairs for the directorates boardroom.
