PRESS RELEASE
Yaobai Cement Karamoja Signs Landmark Sponsorship Deal with Uganda Police Football Club
Kampala, Uganda – 1st Sept 2026
Yaobai Cement Karamoja has officially signed a sponsorship partnership with Uganda Police Football Club (Police FC), one of Uganda’s most storied football institutions. The signing ceremony took place at Uganda Police Headquarters, Naguru, along Katalima Road, bringing together representatives of Yaobai Cement, Police FC leadership and members of the media.
The partnership was facilitated by Yaobai Management, Marketing Team and their PR and Marketing agencies.
The Uganda Police FC Chairman SCP Timothy Halango, Yaobai Cement Deputy Managing Director – Mr. Xing Chao (Rock), Mr. Ma Chao – Yaobai Managing Director and Mr. Byona Ambrose – Yaobai Local Partner and Director all witnessed the landmark partnership signing.
A Partnership Rooted in Community
Speaking at the event, SCP Timothy Halango said the sponsorship will directly impact the community.
“Its a very big achievement for the club, especially knowing that resource constraints have been keeping this club back from realizing its objectives of identifying and developing talent and playing competitively in the league. Yaobai cement coming on board helps usreduce that challenge and it should benefit the youth, sporting fraternity and the country so its a landmark achievement.“
Representatives of Yaobai Cement explained that the decision to sponsor Police FC was driven first and foremost by a shared commitment to community development. The club’s work in engaging young people through football offering an alternative path away from crime and idleness – was cited as a key reason the brand chose to align itself with the team.
“We really like the idea of community development,” Marvin N. Biyinzika – Marketing and Performance Manager, Yaobai Cement said,
Noting that although Yaobai Cement is a relatively new cement product in the Ugandan market, it is already active in communities across the country, including all the different regions of Uganda and has ambitions to grow its footprint further.
Backing a Sleeping Giant
Police FC was described during the event as a former Uganda Premier League champion and a former CECAFA club champion – a club with a rich history spanning 61 years and a roll call of celebrated players who have passed through its ranks. Despite operating for years with limited resources, the club has continued to compete and produce talent and event speakers characterized it as a “sleeping giant” ready to be reawakened.
Marvin said the partnership reflects confidence in that legacy and a belief that consistent backing can help restore the club to its former standing in Ugandan football.
Quality and Reach
Yaobai Cement used the occasion to reaffirm its market positioning, emphasising the quality of its product and its expanding distribution network across Uganda. The company said it intends for Police FC’s players and technical staff, as well as the club’s supporters, to have direct and affordable access to its products as the partnership develops – extending the relationship beyond the football pitch and into homes and businesses connected to the club.
Yaobai Cement Karamoja operates as part of a group with roots in Western China and representatives noted that the company currently runs cement production capacity locally as well as regional operations, giving it the scale to support long-term partnerships of this nature.
First-Year Commitment
As part of the signing, Uganda Police Football Club received a cheque of UGX 450 million, representing the first year of the sponsorship. Both parties confirmed that the partnership is structured to grow over time, with future funding levels tied to the club’s on-field performance and additional agreements to be reached between Yaobai Cement and Police FC.
Gratitude from Police FC
Leadership from Uganda Police Football Club welcomed the sponsorship, acknowledging the financial constraints the club has historically operated under and expressing appreciation for a partner willing to invest in its future. Club representatives spoke of ambitions to build institutional capacity, strengthen the team’s competitiveness in domestic and regional -competitions and eventually replicate successful sporting development models seen elsewhere.
Representatives from APT Communications, Urban Native and Yaobai’s marketing team also addressed attendees, underscoring the collaborative effort behind bringing the partnership to fruition and thanking Uganda Police Football Club, the Uganda Police Force and members of the press for their presence at the signing.
