Police at Kitaba, Kicwamba Village, Nyakayojo Sub-county, Mbarara City South Division are holding one suspect identified as Asiimwe Darias in connection with the alleged theft of coffee produce from a resident of the same area.
On Tuesday, 23rd June 2026, at about 0800 hours, the complainant went to harvest coffee from his garden. Upon arrival, he discovered that unknown persons had harvested and stolen the coffee during the night.
The complainant immediately reported the matter to Ruti Police Station and requested the assistance of the Police K-9 Unit to support investigations.
A team of investigators, together with the K-9 unit, promptly responded to the scene. Police sniffer dog T/P 261 PILOT was introduced to a well-preserved crime scene and successfully picked up a human scent.
The dog tracked for approximately 900 metres, leading officers to the home of Asiimwe Darias, a resident of the same area.
A search was conducted at the suspect’s residence, where exhibits of freshly harvested coffee were recovered.
The suspect was taken into police custody to assist with ongoing investigations. Further inquiries into the matter are underway.
