Police FC mounted a spirited comeback to defeat Mbarara City 2-1 in an entertaining Uganda Premier League clash at Rwamwanja Stadium in Kamwenge on Thursday.

Mbarara City made a bright start and were rewarded just before halftime by Muhammad Kanyike, capitalising on their early dominance to take a 1-0 lead into the break. Roared on by their home fans, the Ankole Lions looked on course to secure a vital result in their survival bid.

Police FC returned for the second half with renewed intent, making a bold double substitution in the 46th minute as Jemba Ramsey and Marko Teny replaced Mugume Emmanuel and Tezikya Laurence. The changes immediately injected urgency into their play.

Samuel Kayongo was cautioned in the 48th minute as the visitors raised the tempo. Further tactical tweaks followed, with Umar Kasumba introduced for Kayongo in the 66th minute. Three minutes later, Bbaale Charles came on for Ikamba Bedia, while Saidi Kyeyune was also booked in the same passage of play.

The momentum gradually swung in Police FC’s favour, and in the 70th minute, Kasumba made an instant impact—setting up Daniel Jakony, who calmly finished to level matters at 1-1.

Sensing an opportunity, Police FC kept pressing, introducing Mario Sizwe for Obedi Brian in the 79th minute to add fresh attacking impetus.

With the contest seemingly headed for a draw, Police FC found a dramatic late breakthrough. Deep into stoppage time, in the 90+3 minute, Marko Teny struck the winner to cap a remarkable turnaround and secure all three points for the visitors.

Police, now on 38 points will play URA FC on Tuesday at Kira Road Police Arena, Kamwokya.
