On 22 August 2026, Police received information regarding an abandoned firearm in a dilapidated building that was undergoing demolition in Kijabijo Cell, Kimwanyi Ward, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police officers from Kasangati responded to the information and recovered an AK-47 rifle together with several rounds of ammunition from the old building.
The building, which was under demolition, was reportedly previously occupied by individuals believed to have been involved in criminal activities. One of the former occupants was arrested in connection with the shooting of a mobile money attendant in Ntinda in 2024.
The recovered firearm and ammunition have been secured for further examination and ballistic analysis.
Police are continuing with investigations to establish the ownership of the firearm, the circumstances under which it was kept at the premises, and to identify and apprehend any other persons connected to the matter.
