Territorial police in Kassanda are actively investigating murder and aggravated defilement of Tumukunde Hope a female juvenile aged 10 years, daughter to Bakunda Samuel and Mbabazi Scovia residents of Kamuli LCI Mayirikiti parish Kalwana subcounty in Kassanda district.
On 19/03/2022 at about 0800/c the deceased was sent together with her brother one Nshuti Eriya aged three (3) years old to fetch water at the well located in the farm of Kayindo Joseph Nsamba in kiterega Village but they didn’t return back home.
The residents mounted a search team that evening at about 0400pm led by the father of the deceased in the farm and both victims were found but Hope was dead while the brother was also assaulted but still alive.
One suspect has been arrested to aid in investigations, the boy is still traumatized and under gone medical tests and treatment.
Inquiries are still ongoing. We condole with the parents and community.
We want to appeal to the general public that protection and safeguarding of children is everyone’s responsibility, its shared responsibility. When any of us hear something about a child that concerns us, we should report our concerns to someone who can help.
We continue to caution all guardians including parents, caretakers on positive parenting, teachers, communities and local authorities to utilize the established structures to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect, exploitation and violence affecting children.
We shall continue with mass sensitization through our Child and Family Protection Unit about protection of children
