UPL: Police cruise to third straight win
• Police 2-0 Calvary
Police FC surged to second place on the StarTimes Uganda Premier League table after a convincing 2–0 victory over Calvary FC at Kira Road Police Arena on Wednesday.
Obedi Brian James and substitute Umaru Kasumba struck a goal apiece in the second half after Bedia Ikamba Djuma had failed to convert a one-on-one attempt.
After a tense and evenly balanced first hour, Obedi Brian James finally broke the deadlock in the 74th minute, rising highest to convert Richard Matovu’s well-delivered assist. The goal injected fresh belief into the hosts, who pressed on for more.
Super substitute Umar Kasumba wrapped up the win late on, tapping home in the 89th minute after neat build-up play involving a long freekick by Deus Bukenya to seal a third straight victory for Police.
Kasumba doubled the advantage from point-blank range as a long free kick from Deus Bukenya found Jemba, whose effort crashed off the post, and Kasumba was on hand to tap home the loose ball.
The result propelled Police up three places to second on 27 points, level with KCCA FC and leaders Vipers SC, though both Police and KCCA have played two more matches than Vipers.
Police will hope to maintain their ascendency on Tuesday next week visiting Vipers Sports Club at the St Mary’s Stadium in Kitende before completing the first round on Saturday 31st against URA FC in Nakivubo.
