ALGERIAN POLICE TO ASSIST UGANDA POLICE WITH CCTV CAMERAS IMPLEMENTATION
A delegation from the Algeria police on Tuesday met the Inspector General of Police Gen. Kayihura and other Ugandan police chiefs as part of the cooperation between the forces of the two countries.
Addressing journalists shortly after the bilateral meeting, the Police spokesperson AIGP Asan Kasingye said the two forces would cooperate in a number of fields including the CCTV camera project and its implementation.
“They are ahead of us and the continent in terms of using the CCTV cameras and they will greatly help us on our forthcoming project,” Kasingye said.
He added that as part of the cooperation each force would send a permanent representative to the other’s respective country in a bid to oversee the implantation of the project.
President Museveni recently said the CCTV project would help Uganda address insecurity.
He further said he did not expect anyone to interfere with the project as it would help identify perpetrators of crimes in Uganda.

AIGP Kasingye said the CCTV camera project would take three phases including installation of cameras in the central business district of Kampala and the neighboring areas of Wakiso, Entebbe and Mukono.
“The second phase will be the major towns like Gulu, Fort Portal and Mbale among others. The last phase will be installing cameras on all major highways,” added Kasingye.
He said the meeting between the Uganda police force and their counterparts from Algeria will discuss ways of helping their counterparts from Kampala in many other fields.
These include counter terrorism, cybercrime, traffic and ICT among others.
Speaking during the meeting, Gen Kayihura applauded their counterparts from Algeria for helping the Ugandan police match international standards in terms of policing.
“You are a field police and the challenges affecting you as similar to ours. The cooperation will greatly benefit us,” said Kayihura.
