FIRE OUTBREAK AT MUKURA UNION VISION PRIMARY AND SECONDARY SCHOOL

Community Policing Press Release

The Uganda Police Force in Ngora District is investigating a fire outbreak that occurred on the morning of Sunday, 31st May 2026, at Mukura Union Vision Primary and Secondary School, located in Mukura Town Council, Ngora District.

At approximately 0900 hours, Mukura Police Station received information regarding a fire at the school premises. Officers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services promptly responded to the scene and successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to other sections of the school.

Preliminary findings indicate that the fire originated from one of the students’ hostel rooms. At the time of the incident, all students were attending morning prayers, which fortunately prevented any injuries or loss of life. However, personal property belonging to students in the affected room was destroyed.

Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a mobile phone left charging on a defective or loose electrical socket. Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the outbreak.

The Uganda Police Force wishes to remind all school administrators, staff, and students to observe the following fire safety measures to prevent similar incidents:

– Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of all electrical installations within school premises.

– Prohibit unauthorized charging of electronic devices in dormitories, hostels, and other boarding facilities.

– Ensure that adequate fire suppression equipment, including fire extinguishers, is installed and maintained in all boarding sections.

– Regularly conduct fire drills and emergency response exercises to enhance preparedness.

– Closely supervise students, particularly within dormitory and hostel settings.

– Engage the Police Fire Prevention and Rescue Services to conduct safety audits and provide professional guidance on fire prevention.

The Uganda Police Force remains committed to promoting safety in educational institutions and urges all schools to prioritize fire prevention and emergency preparedness.
